It will surprise many Christians to know that the Bible forbids us to consume certain meats which we eat everyday.

Animals the Bible forbid Christians to eat

In the old covenant, God instructed the Israelites through prophet Moses not to eat certain animals. Their meats, according to The Lord, are unclean and we’re supposed not to eat nor even touch their bodies.

what animals does the Bible forbid Christians to eat?

1. Pork

It is obvious pork is one of the most delicious meat in the world. However, God forbids the consumption of pork in the Bible. According to the book of Leviticus, ‘ because it parts the hoof but does not chew the cud.’

"Do not eat pigs. They must be considered unclean; they have divided hoofs, but do not chew the cud" (Leveticus 11:7)

Pork is seen as unclean animal in the eyes of God. Therefore you shall not eat nor even touch their carcass.

2. Rabbits, Rats and Camel

The lord also listed certain animals such as rabbit, rat and camels as unfit to eat. Whoever eats or touch their carcass is deemed as unclean and should purify himself before coming in the presence of the Lord.

The subject of whether or not Christians should eat these foods remains one of the greatest debates in the history of Christianity.

Orthodox Christianity asserts that the Law does not bind Christians, and Christians are free to consume whatever the like.

This is because, according to them, Jesus established a new covenant which does not forbid Christians from the consumption of unclean meats.

They often quote Mark 7 to substantiate their claims. In mark 7, Jesus told his disciples that  ‘it’s not what goes into a person’s mouth that makes him unclean but rather what comes out of a person.’

Not just Mark 7, but in Acts 10 God instructed Peter to eat meat which is regarded as unclean in the book of Moses.

If the old covenant does not apply to Christians why does the Church still tithe? What about the ten commandments?
